Un match bien fermé surtout de la part des Portugais qui ont joué le contre tout le match sauf dans le dernier quart d'heure. Les Ouest-Allemands ont été bien maladroits à l'image de l'occasion manquée par Rudi Völler en toute fin de match. La RFA, qui jouait presque à domicile (Strasbourg) aurait dû faire surtout que Bento n'a pas été transcendant dans ses sorties en première mi-temps. Pour finir, il y a eu beaucoup de fautes durant ce match...
