Fahad Al-Harifi Al-Bishi was named as "Al-Husseini". Corinthians Paulista qualified as the domestic league's champions of the hosting country (Brasileirão Série A from Brazil) while Al-Nassr from Saudi Arabia qualified by the AFC for being the champions of the Asian Super Cup between the AFC Champions League (formerly Asian Club Championship) winners and the Asian Club Winners'Cup won by the saudi team. Both teams shared the Group A with european Real Madrid (winners of the 1997-98 UEFA Champions League and the 1998 European/South American Cup who won the 1999-00 UEFA Champions League edition a few months later) and african Raja Casablanca (winners of the 1999 CAF Champions League) were the 1st plays the final against the 1st of the Group B and the 2nd teams plays the third-place match. As Real Madrid won 3-2 to Raja Casablanca for this matchday before this one starts they reached 7 points so Al-Nassr with 3 points was alredy out of the final even winning and Corinthians needed to win for one goal to force a first place play-off with the european team while winning for 2 goals or more qualifies to the final.
